Sea Island is a picturesque barrier island on the coast of Georgia, an hour north of Jacksonville, Florida, and an hour south of Savannah, Georgia.

Sea Island Resorts is comprised of The Cloister, The Lodge and Cabin Bluff. The Cloister, which opened in the fall of 1928, quickly became the cornerstone of Sea Island. In 2001, The Lodge was built at a cost of more than $50 million. The Lodge embodies the ultimate clubhouse experience, and included luxurious member and guest accommodations and unparalleled service. In its first year, it was honored by the American Automobile Association with its Five Diamond award and a year later received the equally coveted Mobil 5-star designation – and continuously received both awards every year since. In 2006, The Lodge was named Best Small Hotel and #1 for Top Dining in the Zagat Survey of Top Hotels.

2004 brought further international recognition when President George W. Bush chose Sea Island to host the G8 Summit of world leaders, who were representing the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Japan, Russia, Canada, Germany and the U.S.

Completing the circle, The Cloister was reborn in 2006 following a $350 million initiative. Designed by the original Addison Mizner style in all its original grandeur, it promises to be the world’s ultimate resort destination for generations to come.

Also in 2006, the new tennis center at The Cloister and the Sea Island Stables opened. This fall, a premier 65,000-squre-foot spa will open, as will an impressive Beach Club next year, along with a new Cultural Arts Center.
